“Naturally connected”
This canvas is a tribute to my sisters and the bond I share with them. A sense of connection for life that feels natural but is far from it. From an early age, we were always a trio. Even during summer vacations at the campsite, we were content with each other’s company and had little desire to make new friends. While I used to be the oldest sister, it doesn’t feel that way anymore. We have an incredible amount of support for each other. They are the ones I dare to ask any silly question, share every insecurity with, and discuss all my troubles. There’s hardly a day that goes by without us talking to each other. To convey this story, I’ve chosen serene beige tones. Beige is associated with simplicity and warmth. It’s remarkable how something as simple as being sisters can bring so much warmth. The icons on the canvas are mini-stories in themselves – I’ve highlighted three for you.
- The Little Mermaid: Oh my god, were we fans! I think we watched this movie a thousand times. I bet my parents were driven crazy by it. This icon also symbolizes other Disney movies like Pocahontas, which we often reenacted in the backyard. If I recall correctly, my grandma even made Pocahontas’s outfit for us to use in the dress-up box.
- Kantrade agro: The logo of my mother’s company, Kantrade. This couldn’t be left out. Both my parents are passionate and hardworking individuals; I don’t think they’ll ever retire. This is mainly because they love what they do. This icon symbolizes my parents’ entrepreneurship. They taught us that nothing comes easy, and hard work is necessary to achieve something.
- The dove: This icon symbolizes our Catholic upbringing, from which we inherited our values and morals. These are the values that connect us as sisters; they instilled in us a sense of loyalty to the world, the importance of being there for each other as humans, and not taking each other for granted. Values that I’m very proud of.
