Mijn 32e levensjaar

“My 32nd year of life” 

A painting where two of my greatest passions come together: reflecting and drawing. What you see before you is the result of these passions throughout the past year. 

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been writing in journals. My first journal dates back to 1998 and describes my perspective on the events in 7th grade of elementary school. I took myself very seriously even at that age. Writing things down has always helped me process things, and it’s wonderful when there’s no one talking back. It helped me organize my thoughts and pull out a kind of “what now?” from the tangle of thoughts. 

Writing things down has nowadays become more like “talking it out,” and my journal has become my husband Michiel, whether he likes it or not – it was part of the prenuptial agreement ;-). But the urge to document remains. 

Besides this, I love drawing and wanted to practice more with it. These two separate desires came together in one icon per day. An icon that summarizes that specific day.
