Als een kind zo blij

“As happy as a child” 

This canvas radiates youthful joy to me! It symbolizes the story of my childhood. I grew up in a family with two loving parents and two younger sisters. My childhood represents coziness, warmth, and love, but also balance, peace, and routine. As a child, I was always active and cheerful. I preferred spending my days with my sisters or friends, preferably outdoors; building forts, horseback riding, playing hockey, you name it! My parents often had to slow me down to make sure I didn’t overdo it. They placed great value on shared meals and conversations at the table, where we often discussed the events of the day. Then it was time for showering, changing, reading a story, and going to bed. I think it’s thanks to that routine that I’ve become such a good sleeper.

The coziness, warmth, and love on one side, and the balance, peace, and routine on the other, I’ve captured on this canvas in the transition from warm colors to cool blue tones. For me, this canvas symbolizes my carefree childhood. A beautiful foundation to build upon. Something I am very grateful to my parents
